Must I Say ๐˜๐ž๐ฌ? In our previous post, we talked about how it is perfectly fine to say โ€˜NOโ€™ during the PSLE English Oral Examination.

However, the stakes are even higher when your child encounters a topic like Helping the Elderly on the 2024 PSLE Oral Day 2. They might wonder, โ€œShould I say yes even if I do not agree with the question?โ€

Sometimes it feels like there is only one "right" answer and students can feel trapped. They might be lost for words because honestly, their interactions with the elderly might be limited. Maybe their grandparents do not live with them or perhaps they have been taught not to talk to strangers, even if the stranger may seem vulnerable. All these factors might leave them wanting to say, "Actually, I have never helped the elderly before and I do not really know how."

Even in this scenario, the answer is still โ€˜Noโ€™. No, they do not have to force themselves to agree with the question. Forced or half-hearted responses can come across as awkward and lack the passion and detail that make for a great answer. Instead, students should feel empowered to give honest, introspective responses that reflect their true thoughts and experiences.

Would you like to show your child how that can be done? Check out our model responses that demonstrate both sides of the coin, how to agree with the question and how to disagree effectively. Our students are prepared to shine, no matter which path they choose.
