TOPIC ANALYSIS FOR A LONG WAIT (PSLE 2022)

TOPIC ANALYSIS FOR A LONG WAIT (PSLE 2022)

🦚We are as proud as peacocks when it comes to our students’ abilities to both generate original ideas on their feet as well as being able to adapt plotlines from our existing curriculum!

💘“Even though the topic was unexpected and I was not exposed to the theme before, I was able to come up with a plot along with the strategies taught by Writers’ Guild!” - Corwyn Koh, one of our sensational students

🎯Some of our students also managed to weave in our original plotlines from our curriculum such as “A Proud Moment”, “Helping An Essential Worker”, “Losing Something Important” and “A Special Friendship” within their stories. By adjusting their sails, our students managed to reach their destination!

We wish the very best for our beloved students while they continue with the rest of their papers! Meanwhile, we wish to address two burning questions by students and parents!

Burning Question #1: What does it take for students to score AL1 for the 2022 PSLE Compo?

The 2022 PSLE Composition Topic - A Long Wait - relies on a few important cruxes for successful execution. During our crucial Brainstorming Sessions at Writers’ Guild, we ensure that while planning storylines, we explore different facets of each topic sufficiently while equipping students with the necessary techniques. Our proprietary exercises and techniques allow them to develop and conquer the theme.

The achievement of a masterpiece hinges on the following…

✔ Did you develop the theme of A LONG WAIT sufficiently within the story?

✔ Did you introduce a COLOURFUL CHARACTER that helped to bring out the Complication within the story?

✔ Did you manage to introduce a COMPELLING CONFLICT within the story that kept the reader at the edge of their seat?

✔ Did you have a PROVOKING PLOT TWIST that took the reader’s breath away?

✔ Did you bring forward EXTREME EMOTIONS within your story?

✔ Did you show what you DID while you were waiting?

✔ Did you contrast the PROCESS of waiting? (How long you were supposed to wait vs the actual wait)

✔ Did you know length of wait time can be RELATIVE? (Abstract: FEELS like a long wait. Elaborate on the Extreme Emotions of anxiety and uncertainty)

✔ Did you REACT sufficiently and reasonably to the complication?

✔ Did you conclude the story with a STRONG STORY MESSAGE to the reader - that is linked to a human value?

Burning Question #2: What are the difficulties/traps for the 2022 PSLE Compo topic?

Crafting a masterpiece is never easy. There are certain difficulties that lie within every topic. However, avoiding the following will stand you in good stead!

❌Cursory mention of a long wait - not developing the wait sufficiently within the story

❌Lack of charismatic characters within the story

❌A predictable plotline

❌No interesting developments within the story

❌Lack of techniques or surfacing of emotions within the story

❌Superficial explanation of the wait

❌Main character reacting passively to the development of the story

❌Not concluding the story with a relevant story message
